Essen Jazz Orchestra

The "Essen Jazz Orchestra" was founded in 2014 by Tobias Schütte and Alexander Morsey with the aim of being a creative pool for freelance musicians, composers and arrangers. Moving away from a classic big band concept, the Essen Jazz Orchestra prioritises new music for big band. This work was recognised in 2019 with the prestigious "Jazz Pott" jazz award. The station "WDR 3" honoured it with a feature. The "EJO" has also set itself the task of working with female composers in particular and combining music from different cultures, as well as offering composers from its own band a musical home.
