Jam Session - Sperie Karas Combo

Every Tuesday: Jam Session at the Jazz-Schmiede. As always, the session starts with an opener set, followed by an open session - anyone can come and join in.

Sperie Karas completed his drum studies at the Julliard School of Music in New York. Whilst still a student, he played in well-known New York jazz clubs, including Birdland. Towards the end of his studies, he became a member of the SAUTER-FINEGAN-ORCHESTER. Karas has lived in Germany since 1957, where he initially worked as a drummer for the Südwestfunk dance orchestra in Baden Baden. This was followed by a few years of freelance work until he joined the WDR Big Band in Cologne in 1967.
Sperie Karas works as a lecturer at several schools and teaches big band percussion and sight reading at the Folkwang University.
