We are celebrating the 80th birthday of one of the best pianists in our country. A musician who is held in high esteem by his colleagues and who has played a key role in shaping the German jazz scene over the last few decades. He will be joined by long-time friends and companions. Bob Degen was born on 24 January 1944 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He began playing the piano at an early age and performed with his father. in 1961, he studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and took lessons from well-known pianists such as Margarete Chaloff. He then played with renowned musicians such as Dexter Gordon and Art Farmer. in 1969, he joined the Glenn Miller Orchestra and travelled around the world. He finally settled in Frankfurt am Main and played with Albert Mangelsdorff, among others. He was a member of the HR Jazz Ensemble and recorded with various artists. Bob Degen is known as a 'musicians musician' and is held in high esteem by colleagues and connoisseurs.
